Bridging Language Barriers and Building Connection

In this interactive online course, participants will learn about linguistically and culturally responsive strategies that will help them to bridge language barriers and build connections in their work. During the session, participants will get to draft their own language strategy. This course is designed for individuals working in organisations that provide Artistic and Cultural experiences to the public.
Some of the topics covered will include:
- Understanding the types of language and communication barriers and challenges
- Identifying and addressing relevant language and communication barriers
- Building your own inclusive language and communication action plan
About the training:
The course is delivered via Zoom. Participants will take part in group discussions and will be guided through the steps to build their inclusive language and communication plan.
All participants receive a certificate of attendance.

There are three choices of dates and times:
Option 1: Friday 7th January, 10 am to 12.30 pm
Option 2: Saturday 8th January, 10 am to 12.30 pm
Option 3: Monday 10th January, 6 to 8.30 pm
Option 4: Friday 28th January, 10 am to 12.30 pm

Description
Dr Francesca La Morgia is a linguist, lecturer and researcher. She is the founding director of Mother Tongues where she is responsible for Learning, Research and Policy Development. Francesca is currently coordinating the Cultural Diversity Programme Development for South Dublin County Council (2021-2024). She has developed training and policies in the field of EDI in the arts and she has supported organisations such as the Arts Council and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council in this area. She is an alumna of the second Artist in the Community Scheme Summer School on Cultural Diversity and Collaborative Practice (2019) and in 2020 she was awarded an Arts Council Travel and Training Award for a residency at Counterpoints Arts in the UK. She has written on issues related to migration, multilingualism and diversity in cultural spaces.
