Arts-Based Approaches in Heritage Language Education in Ireland

This month, we will learn more about Heritage Language Schools in Ireland through a presentation by two of our members, the Gymnasium and the Hungarian Irish Theatre Project, to best understand the full experience of multilingual children who attend weekend/complementary/heritage language education.

Anna Yastchenko is the Director at Gymnasium, a school of additional education for Russian speaking children.
Nadia Bocharskaia, is an art historian and an Art educator at Gymnasium. She previously worked in a primarily curatorial capacity in the State Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg. Nadia believes that art education has the power to open hearts and minds, and she enjoys sharing her passion for doing and studying art.

Kata Varnyu is a Hungarian actress, theatre-maker, art and drama facilitator. In 2016 she established the Hungarian Irish Theatre, an international troupe for artists from all nations. The group delivers theatre shows to Hungarian communities living in Ireland and offers various programmes for Hungarian speaking children living in Ireland.
